
When I found a wine-blending event offered by Sable Creek Winery in Plainfield, IL, I could not resist! It’s one thing to drink red blends all the time, it’s another to actually learn how they come-about, first-hand.

My 5 blending wines were Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Sirah, Malbec, and Zinfandel. For each blend, I decided what percentage of each to add, and used the measuring cup for accuracy.

I produced about 5 different blends, and compared them to see which I preferred. One was Cabernet-dominated, another lead by Malbec, and yet another all equal parts. I produced 5 different combinations to better understand what flavors each grape contributes.

The wine-maker uses this event to get feedback from his customers, and even incorporates some of the blends into his wine program!
