My Favorite Summer White Wines From Around The World

Summer is still in full-swing! I’m not yet ready to pull out the crock-pot and cozy up by the fireplace. I plan to enjoy these last few weeks in style!

Speaking of style, this summer I focused on getting to know white wines from around the globe. In every visit to the grocery store or wine shop, I made an effort to try white wines from different countries. Some were amazing, others were okay, and a few…. let’s just say I’ll try anything once. But I had fun experimenting and walked away with a few new favorites.

Here’s my go-to list!

Vinho Verde

Place: Portugal 🇵🇹
Grapes: Alvarinho, Arinto, Loureiro
Style: Dry, light-bodied, acidic, low alcohol, semi-sparkling
Flavor Profile: Green Apple, Lemon, Lime, Grapefruit

Fiano

Place: Italy 🇮🇹
Grapes: Fiano
Style: Dry, full-bodied, acidic, medium alcohol
Flavor Profile: Green Apple, Peach, Mint, White Flower, Honey

Torrontés

Place: Argentina 🇦🇷
Grapes: Torrontés
Style: Dry, medium-bodied, medium alcohol, aromatic, floral
Flavor Profile: Apricot, Nectarine, Melon, Rose

Furmint

Place: Hungary 🇭🇺
Grapes: Furmint
Style: Dry, light-bodied, very acidic, medium alcohol
Flavor Profile: Apple, Peach, Lemon, Nuts, Honey

Assyrtiko

Place: Greece 🇬🇷
Grapes: Torrontés
Style: Dry, medium-bodied, high alcohol
Flavor Profile: Lemon, Apricot, Peach, Passion-fruit, Blossom
