Decanting wine means pouring it from the bottle into another vessel to expose it to oxygen. This can soften harsh aromas, mellow strong tannins, and help a wine open up more quickly. Not every wine needs decanting—older or delicate wines can lose character with too much air. Decanting isn’t about rules; it’s about giving a wine space to show itself.
