Raising the Bar: How Park Manor 75 Redefines Chicago’s South Side Wine Culture
Park Manor 75 is a love letter to the South Side — where good wine, good music, and Black excellence meet intention.

A Love Letter to the South Side of Chicago

Nestled in the heart of Chicago’s South Side, Park Manor 75 brings a speakeasy vibe to the neighborhood — a hidden gem where music hums, wine flows, and Black culture takes center stage. But this special venue doesn’t serve just wine and spirits, it serves a heavy dose of Chicago culture and south side community.

Park Manor 75 is a family’s dream brought to life. Owners and highschool sweethearts Charlette and Jacare Thomas turned a shared vision into reality after more than two decades of marriage, three children, and parallel careers built on excellence. Charlette, a design consultant, shaped the bar’s colorful and inviting aesthetic with her eye for detail, while Jacare, who recently earned his Doctorate in Education from USC, helped ground it in purpose and community.

Together, they’ve created what they call a “third space” — a refined yet relaxed retreat for professionals, creatives, and neighbors to gather, unwind, and feel at home. Park Manor 75 isn’t just their business; it’s their love letter to the South Side, built on faith, family, and the belief that culture and sophistication should live right where they do.

The Wines Speaks for Themselves

Its upscale offerings highlight bottles from Black-owned labels and boutique producers that deserve the spotlight. Love Corkscrew, founded by Chicago native Chrishon Lampley, shines with bright, fruit-forward wines that carry a story of creativity, resilience, and joy. Alongside it, 89 Halsted Wine — another Chicago standout — boasts its rich, spicy Grenache, a local favorite that balances depth with character. Other local and national Black owned labels adorn the shelves.

Behind the bar, the team pours with knowledge and pride. They don’t just hand you a glass — they tell you the story behind it. Ask about a bottle, and you’ll hear where it’s from, who made it, and why it matters. Their refreshing enthusiasm turns every glass into a small moment of education, bridging curiosity with culture.

These wines aren’t just selections; they’re statements. Each pour reflects ownership, artistry, and flavors that cannot be duplicated.

Designed with Intention: Art that Honors Community & Home

From the moment you walk in, the mood is set! Turquoise walls, warm gold accents, and bold contrasting hues create a mood that feels luxurious, familiar and most certainly speakeasy-ish! Handmade, custom artwork celebrates Black joy — portraits, murals, and mixed-media pieces that honor Chicago’s creative roots.

Vintage family photos and neighborhood snapshots line the walls, blending memory with modernity. Even the album covers — Marvin Gaye, Charlie Parker, Prince — feel like ancestors keeping the beat.

As the DJ spins playlists made for connection: you can talk, laugh, toast, and be amongst the community. Semi-private lounge areas line the back, giving space for multiple celebrations to coexist — date nights, birthdays, or casual relaxation all happening at once.

Raising the Standard, Bringing Awareness

Black-owned wine bars are rare in Chicago — and almost unheard of on the South Side. Park Manor 75 changes that with confidence and care, offering more than good wine and great ambiance. It stands as a symbol of what it means for Black-owned businesses to flourish in their own communities — creating safe, stylish spaces where people can gather, learn, and feel proud of where they are. Here, wine education meets cultural elevation; the team is intentional about helping guests understand what’s in their glass while feeling completely at ease. Every cocktail, menu item, every piece of art, and every song in rotation reinforces the same vibe: Black excellence meets cultural creativity.

So, stop on in!  Make it a date night, bring your crew, or drop by solo. If you’re looking for a new favorite spot to unwind, learn, and connect, swing by and take in the wine, art, and neighborhood vibes that celebrate the intersection of success. Supporting spaces like this keeps culture thriving and community strong — proof that when we show up for Black-owned businesses, we help them grow roots that last. Park Manor 75 is worthy of the support and investment.
