Overview
Mourvèdre is a bold red wine grape known for producing deeply colored wines with strong tannins, savory flavors, and excellent aging potential. The grape thrives in warm, sunny climates and is often used in blends, particularly in Mediterranean wine regions. Mourvèdre contributes structure, depth, and earthy complexity to wines and is a key component in several famous blends.
Grape Origin
Mourvèdre is believed to have originated in Spain, where it is known as Monastrell. The grape later spread to southern France, particularly in the Rhône Valley and Provence. Today it is widely grown in Spain, France, Australia, and parts of the United States, where it performs best in warm climates with plenty of sunlight.
